CarTradeIndia.com, India’s Online Vehicle Market, has launched a feature through which people can get in touch with vehicle owners to ask them questions. For example, if anyone wants to buy a Fiat Linea, and he has doubts or questions, he can post his question in the respective section on CarTradeIndia.com, i.e. Vehicle Questions & Answers. The question is then shown to owners of the Linea, who would then be able to help out the prospective buyer with his question.

“Thus far, we have provided advice from our in house experts to people with questions and that feature has been hugely popular. However, we have seen that many people wanted to also get in touch with people owning a specific car, to understand their experience and to get answers to specific questions, but there has not been a channel to do that. On CarTradeIndia.com we have a panel of over 10,000 people, who are all owners or ex-owners of specific vehicles. In our newly launched feature, people can get in touch with that panel and ask their questions”, says CarTradeIndia.com lead developer Satish Kalepu.

Answers from owners and experts are clearly specified and distinct from other answers; moreover, answers from owners show the car or bike owned by that specific person. The website has helped out over 5000 people with their questions in a matter of months. “The feature has proven hugely popular and people really like to help each other, so that a true community is being formed”, adds Satish.

Pearl Automotive announced its plans today to donate $25 per car sold for the rest of 2009 to charity.

“The Pearl Companies have been part of Peoria for a very long time. Pearl Automotive believes it is our responsibility to help Peoria in every way we can. By giving $25 per vehicle sold for the rest of 2009 to the charity of the buyer’s choice we hope to donate over $100,000 to worthy causes by the end of the year” stated Mike Udell, Director of Operations, Pearl Automotive.

Pearl Automotive includes Peoria Toyota, Lexus of Peoria and Heritage Buick Mazda GMC.

The charitable giving will kick off at the Peoria Auto Show in the beginning of April and will continue throughout 2009.

“Pearl has targeted Children’s Hospital and the Thomas E. Whitten Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation as two very worthy charities. However customers are encouraged to direct their contribution to any charity they support,” added Mr. Udell.

“When times are tough we all need to do a little more to help,” concluded Mr. Udell.

Heritage Buick Mazda GMC is located on Pioneer Parkway Auto Row. Lexus of Peoria and Peoria Toyota are located on Allen Rd at Willow Knolls.

LV=, the UK insurance provider, has found 80% of drivers have left valuables in their cars. This carelessness has lead to an increase in the number of cars being broken into, with one in four motorists saying that they’ve been a victim of a car break in.

According to a report from LV=, high value items such as mobile phones, clothes and even wallets are regularly left inside vehicles whilst parked on UK roads. The value of goods left by men is generally much higher than that of more safety conscious women. In fact, according to the research carried out amongst 2044 adults, the average value of goods left in cars by men is £380. Younger drivers are similarly lax about their belongings with drivers aged 34 or under admitting to leaving an average of £334 worth of goods in their vehicle. This compares to a national average of £283.

Cars are most at risk of being broken into whilst parked on residential streets, with 40% of all thefts now taking place whilst the car is parked directly outside the owners’ home with a further 18% of thefts taking place whilst the car is parked in other residential areas. Less than one in ten (9%) car break-ins take place in commercial car parks, despite the perceived higher risk.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV= Car Insurance, said: “These figures show a casual attitude amongst motorists when it comes to leaving their belongings in their car. The fact is that most car break-ins are by opportunist thieves who would probably not bother to break into the car if it looked as though it didn’t contain anything to steal.”

The research from LV= found that the most frequently stolen items from unattended cars are detachable car stereos and radios, CDs, wallets and purses and satellite navigation systems.

“Some car insurance policies will cover contents so motorists should ensure they have this cover so that if the worst happens they are not out of pocket,” Ms. Holyer continued. “However, to avoid the hassle of having your car broken into, we’d advise people not to leave any visible valuables in their car in the first place, as this will massively reduce the likelihood of any break in.”

A North Derbyshire family-owned motor group have announced a 30% increase in sales of new cars, despite the announcement by the SMMT (the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) last week that car dealers have had their worst August since 1996. Stan Walker, Group Finance & Insurance Manager for Autoworld in Chesterfield says that Autoworld’s introduction of their
‘Litre-Beaters’ range has enabled them to buck the national trend in what are “uncertain economic times”.

“Litre-Beaters are a range of cars which are so economical to run that they can potentially save the owners up to £100 per month on fuel,” comments Stan.

“Motoring costs are a highly topical and emotive subject. Motorists, who, like the rest of us are incurring increased costs across the board are starting to calculate the amount of time they must work simply to fund the cost of running a car”.

“We empathise with the financial burden people are encountering and fully understand the difficult position they are in; we wanted to offer some way of easing that burden and research showed there was likely to be a huge demand for more economical vehicles. Hence, the introduction of our ‘Litre-Beaters’ range which has already proven to be a great success. The Seat Ibiza is not only very economical to run, but the carbon emissions are so low that the road tax is zero” added Stan.

Chris Rushton, 55 of Lower Pilsey made a decision to buy a Suzuki Swift from the Litre-Beaters range on the basis of fuel costs. “I was driving a 4×4 and decided to buy a Suzuki Swift because I had bought one for my wife’s’ 50th birthday and was really impressed with it. My eldest son also had a Suzuki Swift Sport so it was my turn! I am more than happy with the Suzuki, I travel 28 miles to and from work every day and I only need to fill the tank up once every three weeks; it’s brilliant, a really great car.”

Mark Foulkes, 46 of Chesterfield is one of many customers now turning to Autoworld’s more economical and environmentally friendly range. “I recently invested in a Citroen C1 from Autoworld’s Litre-Beaters range because of astronomical rising fuel costs,” he says. “I replaced my Astra 1.6 as I have to do a three mile journey every day to Walton Hospital where I work. I walked in to the showroom and fell in love with the car which looked great in red with a white stripe. It used to cost me £50 to fill up the Astra and I would get about 260 miles from a full tank. The Citroen from Autoworld costs me just £32 to fill up and I now get over 450 miles from a full tank. I can tax and insure the Citroen for £84 as the road tax is only £35. It is imperative that we carefully control our motoring costs, as we have to run a second car as well; if the family all go out together we need a larger vehicle, hence we have two vehicles purely out of necessity.”

Stan Walker says that “the upsurge in sales means Autoworld can demand better deals from the manufacturers – which in turn means even better deals for customers. In addition to cutting the cost of motoring for customers, if this trend continues Autoworld will need to expand further and take on more staff,” he concluded.

The Litre-Beaters range spans the spectrum of franchises at Autoworld, on Brimington Road North in Chesterfield. Seat, Citroen, Kia, Suzuki, Alfa Romeo and Fiat all have a presence in the range, offering consumers an excellent choice of both style and function.

Mark Behr Executive Manager, Marketing of InsureMyRide says “Super X provides a new and exciting opportunity to position the InsureMyRide brand in front of a whole new generation of riders in a very dynamic way. At InsureMyRide, we know what it’s like on the bike, this is where the action is and the 8 round Super X series will generate enormous interest and involvement in all forms of motorcycling. It’s a natural for InsureMyRide to be associated”

The inaugural season of the Australasian Supercross Championship, Super X, will be brought to audiences’ around the country through Global Action Sports, a partnership between Mike Porra, the promoter of the Crusty Demons live shows and recently crowned world Supercross champion, Chad Reed.

Groundbreaking new race formats, live television coverage, a greatly increased prize purse, expertly-designed international tracks a spectacular entertainment package and world-class riders will redefine the series, which is already creating a global buzz, throughout industry circles and further afar.

Super X will kick off in Perth on October 4 and stages events in Adelaide, Geelong, Sydney, Wollongong and Townsville before heading to Brisbane for the final and a one off event in , .

“This is a dream of mine, to return home and establish, as well as compete in, an all-new Supercross series which is why I have signed on as a major shareholder,” said Reed.

“Global Action Sports have a lot of experience in creating successful, sports and entertainment events and I’m excited to be working with Mike (Porra) and the team.”

As well as the traditional 20 lap, 20 rider finals, a series of spectacular new race formats are set to re-energise Supercross, with riders facing unique tests of speed and skill.

Man-on-Man pits two riders only in a one lap sprint. First past the chequered flag after just one lap will move on with the loser eliminated. Heats, quarters, semis and a final – fast and furious racing.

Survival, as the name suggests, is an all-out battle for survival through four five lap races where the bottom five are eliminated each time until only five are left to fight it out. A one minute rest from when the first rider crosses the line will make this event even more punishing.

The Triple Challenge will see 20 riders fight it out in three separate races of six laps with points gained in each race that go toward their final tally for the round.

Finally, Super Sprint will see four heats of 10 riders in a five lap race with the winner of each proceeding straight to the grand final. From there competitors positioned second to fifth will fight it out in the semi finals with those fierce and fast enough to finish in the top four joining the original riders in the last.

“The new race formats break tradition and really shake up the sport. They will make for faster, cut-throat, exciting and competitive racing, not seen before anywhere on the planet,” said Reed.

“Super X will raise the bar worldwide. I know there is growing interest from the US-based competitors in the series and to have some high-profile riders travel down under to take part will be awesome for the sport and the fans.”

Mike Porra, CEO of Global Action Sports is striving to revolutionise the niche sport and bring the bar-to-bar action to a mainstream audience.

“It’s our ambition to transform the sport globally with Super X. The new race formats and our plans for entertainment and television coverage have never been seen before even in the USA and Europe,” said Porra.

“We will be drawing on our experience from the Crusty Demons live shows to ensure that each round is not only an action packed race but an entertainment package that will blow fans away, both at the track and on TV.”

In an encouraging world-first for the sport, the entire Super X Supercross Series will be telecast live on Fox Sports. Even in the USA where the sport is so well established, not all races are televised live. This will also be supplemented by comprehensive highlight packages on free-to-air television’s ‘Home of Motorsport’, Network Ten.

In 2009, the championship will grow to a minimum of 8 rounds and a minimum of 10 rounds are planned for 2010.

Tracks will be custom designed and built for each venue by internationally renowned track designer, Mark Barnett, with full US style tracks for the first time in Australia at huge expense to Super X promoters.

Many Britons may have put their safety in danger over the festive season by getting into vehicles with people they knew were too drunk to drive legally.

A survey of 1,000 Facebook users conducted by the RAC Foundation has shown that almost 20 per cent of Brits aged between 18 and 24 got into cars with intoxicated motorists over Christmas and new year.

Meanwhile, 12 per cent of young people aged 13 to 17 said they had done the same, while eight per cent of 25 to 49-year-olds agreed.

The RAC Foundation is now calling for greater education of young people about the perils of being a passenger in a car with a drink driver, which could also impact upon the motorist’s car insurance premiums should an incident occur.

Sheila Rainger, acting director of the RAC Foundation, said: “New thinking is needed, targeting passengers as well as drivers, to ensure that drink-driving remains socially unacceptable and to ensure that passengers, especially younger women, have the confidence to turn down what could be their last lift.”

The findings showed that young females were the most likely to get in a car with a drunk driver, with 85 per cent of the females who said they would get into a vehicle with an intoxicated motorist being under 25.

In response, the motoring body has suggested that a three-point plan is put into place.

This would involve having more traffic police, combining random and targeted breath testing and ensuring that the courts have an extensive range of penal sanctions that combine punishment with education and advice.

Recently, the Association of Chief Police Officers reported a drop in drink drivers of almost a fifth over the festive period.
